Don’t forget, the 49th Ward’s Participatory Budgeting Election Day is tomorrow (Saturday, May 4th). Polls will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Your polling place is at the Chicago Math and Science Academy, 7212 N. Clark Street (just south of the firehouse and across from Touhy Park).
The eyes of the world are on the 49th Ward
this weekend as our ward plays host to anInternational Conference on Participatory Budgeting at Loyola University’s Damen Student Center, 6511 N. Sheridan. Participants from 15 countries will be attending workshops, panels, and presentations. Registration is still open and will be available at the door. For more information, CLICK HERE.
Three other Chicago wards have followed the 49th Ward’s lead and will be holding participatory budgeting elections this weekend, as well. So be a part of this democratic movement and join your neighbors to decide directly how to spend your tax dollars!
This year you will be asked to vote on two separate ballot questions. First, you will be asked to vote on the percentage of the ward infrastructure ballot that you believe should be devoted exclusively to street resurfacing and new streetlights.
Second you will be asked to vote on how the remainder of the ward’s infrastructure ballot should be allocated. You will be given four votes to choose among 11 project proposals that were developed, researched and proposed by your neighbors, not by politicians or bureaucrats. And it will be you and your neighbors, not City Hall, who decide which projects will move forward.
Information on the 11 project proposals, as well as the blocks proposed for street resurfacing and new streetlights, will be on display throughout the day at the Chicago Math and Science Academy.
