Get your spoons ready! The Ninth Annual Heat It Up! Pro/Am Chili Cook-off & Fundraiser for the Glenwood Sunday Market takes place Sunday, March 4th, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Ethiopian Diamond II’s Diamond Banquet Room, 7537 N Clark (just south of Howard).
Professional and amateur chefs from across Chicago will showcase their chili-cooking expertise. You’ll have a chance to taste and vote for your favorite chili dishes! Chefs will provide a wide variety of chili options, including vegetarian and vegan offerings; beef, pork, chicken, and wild game; red, green, killer-spicy, or mild; plus an assortment of unique options. Indian curry chili, anyone?
Proceeds from this event help bring great food to our neighbors in need.

With your help, Glenwood Sunday Market can partner with more loyal shoppers like Marc and Marina (see below). Your contributions will go even further because our award-winning farmers market has an opportunity to win a huge grant for its food access programs. In order to be considered for this $10,000 grant, the Market must demonstrate it has equal dollars in the bank–and that’s where your help comes in.
Marc lives in a nursing home a few blocks away from the market and hates the food served there because it doesn’t taste like it comes from real ingredients. He loves to cook and shares his signature “leftovers bake” with friends.
Marina immigrated from Russia many years ago as a Jewish refugee. She recently retired from teaching English as a second language and comes to the market to purchase local honey to help with her seasonal allergies.
Both Marc and Marina are able to afford fresh food from local farmers because the Market doubles or triples their spending power when they use their LINK (food stamp) card at the farmers market each week. This program–Market For All–has been a cornerstone of the Glenwoood Sunday Market’s mission since the Market’s very first day in 2010.
With the funds raised at the chili cook-off serving as the local match for this grant, the Sunday Market will be able to give over $20,000 in matching micro-grants to the Sunday Market’s shoppers who use LINK to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. All of this goes straight into the pockets of our small, locally-owned family farms.
The Trump Administration is proposing to cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by eliminating fresh fruits and vegetables from the program, denying people the dignity of choosing their own food. The Glenwood Sunday Market’s work is more important than ever before.
Together, we can change people’s lives!
In addition to the chili tastings, live music, and cash bar, activities will include a live auction, a 50-50 raffle, and a fantastic time for all. You won’t want to miss this delicious occasion. Vote for your favorite chili by tipping with silver cherry tokens (proceeds benefit the Glenwood Sunday Market).
Who will win the Golden Ladle of Glory? Who will be crowned Fan Favorite?
Eat chili for a good cause, dance to live music, enjoy great drink specials, sweet & savory snacks, and fabulous live auction items!
