Get your spoons ready! The Glenwood Sunday Market 8th Annual Heat It Up! Pro/Am Chili Cook-off & Fundraiser takes place this Sunday, March 5th, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. at Bar 63, 6341 N Broadway (just south of Sheridan & Devon).
Professional and amateur chefs from across Chicago will showcase their chili-cooking expertise and you’ll have a chance to taste and vote for your favorite chili dishes! Chefs provide a wide variety of chili options, including vegetarian/vegan offerings; beef, pork, chicken, and wild game; red, green, killer-spicy, or mild; plus an assortment of unique options (Indian curry chili, anyone?)
Vote for your favorite chili by tipping with silver cherry tokens (proceeds benefit the Glenwood Sunday Market). Who will win the Golden Ladle of Glory? The Silver Spoon of Second Chances? The Bronze Bean of Better Luck Next Time?
Stuff your face with some of the most delicious chili in Chicago. This competition will be fun for everyone!
In addition to the chili tastings, live music, and cash bar, activities will include a live auction, a 50-50 raffle, and a fantastic time for all! You won’t want to miss this delicious occasion!
Our award-winning local farmers market has operated since 2010, and from its very first day, Glenwood Sunday Market has made a point to make all feel welcome, especially those who use EBT/Link cards or otherwise face food insecurity.
Known as Market for All, the program helps people double or triple their spending power when using the Link cards; provides healthy local produce to food pantries, soup kitchens, and domestic violence agencies; and distributes Community Supported Agricultural (CSA) boxes through our local schools to families in need.
After four successful years of programming, the CSA distribution program lost its grant funding. Rather than abandon their effort, Glenwood Sunday Market supporters decided to fund the program through a new local initiative dubbed Community Shares 2.0.
This year, all proceeds raised at Heat It Up! will be used to launch this new initiative. The idea is pretty simple: purchase CSAs now from local farmers, when they are incurring the majority of their expenses (but no income yet), and distribute the food throughout the year to local social service agencies who will provide the food to the people who need it most.
Come eat chili for a good cause, dance to live music, enjoy great drink specials, sweet & savory snacks, and fabulous live auction items. The event will feature simultaneous interpretation in American Sign Language. Tickets to the event are just $35, or $45 at the door.

I look forward to seeing you at Heat it UP! this Sunday.
