I am writing to invite you to attend a community meeting to review a proposal for a “Belgian Ale House” to be located at 1547 W. Jarvis. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 25th, 7:00 p.m., at the 49thWard Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview.
The applicants, restaurateurs Tony and Antonia Barbanente, plan to serve hand-crafted Belgian Beers and ales and feature a Belgian menu of items, such as mussels and pommes frites. They are considering roof top seating and seating on a rear yard deck, in addition to seating inside the establishment. The Barbanentes currently own Donna Italian Cuisine at 5146 N. Clark and Via Veneto Cucina Italiana at 6450 N. Lincoln.
The proposed ale house requires a zoning change from the current B1-3 zoning classification to a B3-3 classification. The applicants also need a special use permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals, which will allow them to apply for a tavern license.
The applicants need my support for a zoning change. The Zoning Board of Appeals reserves final judgment on the special use permit application, but the opinions of the local alderman and the surrounding community weigh heavily in the Board’s determination.
I urge you to attend the meeting to hear their plans, ask questions and offer your opinion on their proposal. If you are not able to attend the meeting, please feel free to share your thoughts with me via e-mail or by phone at 773-883-5796.
Very truly yours,
