The 49th Ward will receive two new playgrounds later this year and you are invited to vote for your favorite designs for each park. New playgrounds are slated for Loyola Park (Greenleaf and the Lake) and Leone Beach Park (Touhy and the Lake).
The meeting and vote will be held this Saturday, February 20th, 10:00 a.m., at the Loyola Park Fieldhouse gym, 1230 W. Greenleaf (at the Lake).
In the spirit of the 49th Ward’s tradition of participatory democracy, I’m hosting this meeting with the Chicago Park District to give parents, their children, and other interested community residents an opportunity to vote on their favorite playground designs.
Those attending the meeting will be asked to vote for one of five proposed playground designs for each park. Adults and children alike will be invited to cast their votes. If none of the designs receives a majority of the votes, a second round of voting will be conducted between the two designs winning the most votes. The Park District has agreed to construct the playground design that wins a majority of the votes of those present.

In just the last three years alone, ten playgrounds in the 49th Ward have been entirely rebuilt with modern equipment and accessibility upgrades–nine through the Chicago Plays! program and one at Touhy Park, which was funded through my Participatory Budgeting process.
Loyola Park and Leone Park playgrounds are the only remaining 49th Ward playgrounds without new equipment. Once those playgrounds are rebuilt, the 49th Ward parks will boast 12 brand new playgrounds!
I look forward to your input for the Loyola Park and Leone Park playgrounds this Saturday morning, February 20th.
