I am writing to invite you to attend a community meeting to review a proposal to establish an auto repair shop and car wash at the site of the former Burger King at 2321 W. Howard (southeast corner of Howard and Claremont). The meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd, 7:00 p.m., at the St. Margaret Mary Church Community Center, 7341 N. Claremont (at Jarvis).
Michael David, who owns Power King, a car repair shop located on the Evanston side of Howard Street, just across the street from the proposed site, will present plans to renovate the old Burger King building into an auto repair shop. He plans to construct an addition to the building for a small office and hand car wash, which will be located on the south side of the property, adjacent to the alley. Under the proposal, autos would enter and exit the repair shop and car wash off of Howard only. The proposal includes a landscape buffer along Howard and Claremont.
The property is currently zoned B3-2. Mr. David is requesting a zoning change to C1-1, which would allow for vehicle uses, and, incidentally, reduce the permitted density on the property.
Elevations and the site plan for the proposed development are attached below:
I urge you to attend the meeting to offer your opinions of the proposal. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to reply to this e-mail with your thoughts and suggestions.
