I am writing to invite you to attend a community meeting to discuss a proposal by Gold Star Jewelry and Loan, 7048 N. Clark (just north of Greenleaf), to obtain a pawnbroker’s license. The meeting will be held onTuesday, November 23rd, 7:00 p.m., at the Rogers Park Library, 6907 N. Clark (at Farwell).
Bruce and Joyce Lowis, proprietors of Gold Star Jewelry, and their attorney will present their proposal, which requires a special use permit by the City of Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals.
Unlike a zoning change application over which I have veto power, an application for a special use permit is reviewed by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Though the Zoning Board of Appeals takes into account the opinion of the alderman and surrounding community, the Board reserves final say over whether to grant or deny a special use.
I urge you to attend the meeting to offer your opinions of the proposal. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to reply to this e-mail with your thoughts and suggestions.
