I am writing to invite you to attend a community meeting to review a new development proposal–a truck rental facility–for the site of the former Burger King at 2321 W. Howard (southeast corner of Howard and Claremont). The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 12th, 7:00 p.m., at the St. Margaret Mary Church Community Center, 7341 N. Claremont (at Jarvis).
You may recall last summer I hosted a community meeting to review a proposed zoning change to allow for an auto repair shop and car wash at the old Burger King site. The proposal received overwhelming support from neighborhood residents who attended the meeting or shared their views with me via e-mail. As a result, I supported the zoning change. Unfortunately, the applicant subsequently suffered a series of deaths in his family and he decided to abandon the project.
The new applicants, Vincent Rizzo and his family, are franchisees with Penske Truck Rental and wish to open a truck rental facility at the site. They currently own a similar truck rental franchise on the 3600 block of North Clark Street, across from Wrigley Field. The existing B3-2 zoning does not allow vehicle uses. Mr. Rizzo’s family is requesting a zoning change to C2-1, which would permit the use and also lower the allowed density of the property.
I urge you to attend the meeting to offer your opinions of the proposal. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to reply to this e-mail with your thoughts and suggestions.
