I invite you to attend a community meeting to review plans and vote on the design for a new playgroundfor Goldberg Park, which is located at the northeast corner of Greenleaf and Glenwood. The meeting will take place Monday, September 30th, 7:00 p.m., at Trilogy, Inc., 1400 W. Greenleaf (northwest corner of Greenleaf and Glenwood), 4th floor.
Those attending the meeting will be asked to vote for one of three playground designs submitted by three different architectural firms. If none of the designs receives a majority of the votes, a second round of voting will be conducted between the two designs winning the most votes. The Park District has agreed to construct the playground design that wins a majority of the votes of those attending the meeting.

Earlier this summer, I announced that four parks in the 49th Ward were on tap to receive new playgrounds courtesy of the Chicago Park District’s Chicago Plays! Playground Replacement Initiative. Goldberg Park was one of the parks selected.
The playgrounds were selected through a community application process administered by Friends of the Parks, a park advocacy organization, dedicated to preserving, protecting, and improving Chicago’s parks. I announced the initiative last March and urged neighbors to submit their favorite playground for consideration. In true Rogers Park fashion, the neighbors were enthusiastic and well-organized. As a result, every 49th Ward playground submitted for consideration was selected.
The other 49th Ward parks slated for new playgrounds are Lazarus Park, 1257 W. Columbia, Matanky Park, 6925 N. Ridge (at Morse) and Paschen Park, 1932 W. Lunt (at Damen). Construction of the new playgrounds was scheduled to begin in spring 2014, but construction of Goldberg’s new playground may begin as soon as this year.
The four playgrounds are in addition to a new playground at Touhy Park, which is funded through myParticipatory Budgeting process. Construction of the Touhy Park playground has begun and will be completed by next spring.
By the time school lets out for the summer next year, the 49th Ward will boast five brand new playgrounds!
I look forward to your input for the Goldberg Park playground on Monday evening, September 30th.
