From now until the end of this year (December 31, 2015), the City of Chicago is offering a “debt relief” program for those who have unpaid tickets, fines and City taxes incurred before January 1, 2012.
If you have unpaid parking and red light camera tickets, unpaid fines imposed by the Department of Administrative Hearings (e.g., building code violations, drinking on the public way) and/or unpaid taxes (both non-filers and tax assessments), the City will waive all penalties, and collection costs associated with the debt. This will reduce your debt to the amount due on the original ticket, fine or tax amount.
Please note this amnesty is only for debt incurred before 2012. Also keep in mind that tow fees, storage fees, administrative fees, court costs, and other charges are not subject to the Debt Relief Program. You must pay your debt by December 31st of this year to take advantage of the amnesty program.
For parking and red light tickets and administrative fines, just pay the amount due for the eligible ticket or fine.
For unpaid tax, you must complete a Tax Debt Relief application to register with the City. You will also need to file applicable tax returns.
Payments for parking, red light and administrative violations can be made online, in-person, at a kiosk or via mail:
