All Chicago-based artists are invited to submit a design for one of twenty murals that will grace CTA and Metra underpasses and embankments in the 49th Ward.
The “Art=Rogers Park Underpass Murals Project“ was one of the funding proposals that received voter approval in the Participatory Budgeting election last April in which I gave the 49th Ward residents the power to determine how I would spend the 49th Ward’s capital budget allocation.

Eligible artists for the Art=Rogers Park Underpass Murals Project must either live in Chicago or have a studio located in Chicago.
The members of the Arts and Innovation Committee of the of the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting Project will oversee the process and a panel of art and public art specialists will review all design proposals for artistic merit, appropriateness to public presentation and originality. If more than 20 proposals are deemed eligible, the finalists will be submitted to a vote of the 49th Ward residents at an election to be held at the Glenwood Arts Fest, August 18-19. The twenty proposals winning the most votes will be selected for the underpass murals project.
Each winning artist will receive a stipend of $5,400 per mural location as follows: $500 upon contract signing and $4,900 balance upon acceptable completion of the project. Artists are responsible for providing all supplies for the project.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING YOUR PROPOSED MURAL IS MONDAY, JULY 16TH, AT 11:59 P.M. Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are not an artist, but know someone who is, please forward this e-mail to them.
I look forward to seeing some exciting proposals!
