A lot of great activities are on tap for this weekend in the 49th Ward.
COMMUNITY BICYCLE TOUR OF THE 49TH WARD
This Sunday is Bicycle Day at the Glenwood Sunday Market, and I’m inviting you to join me on aCOMMUNITY BICYCLE TOUR OF THE 49TH WARD that will end at the Market.
Join me and your neighbors this Sunday, (August 15th), 7:30 a.m. at the 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis). We’ll enjoy a light breakfast snack compliments of Whole Foods, and you’ll receive a free reusable water bottle if you’re one of the first 50 arrivals. We’ll then push off for an hour-long bicycle tour of the 49th Ward with a safety escort provided by Mayor Daley’s Bicycling Ambassadors.
At the halfway point, we’ll stop off at the Heartland on the Lake at Greenleaf and the lake for some refreshments and watch as the runners cross the finish line in the Heartland Cafe’s Heat of the Summer 5K Race.
We’ll conclude our ride at Bicycle Day at the Glenwood Sunday Market at Morse and Glenwood, where a gospel choir–Blind Anabaptist Blues and the Three Brothers–will greet our arrival.
Bicycle parking will be available, along with some great bike-related vendors and resources.
The Recyclery, 7628 N. Paulina, Rogers Park’s used bicycle collective, will be accepting donations of used bikes.
And Roberts Cycle, 7054 N. Clark, will join Albany Park Bikes in providing helpful tips for basic bike care and repair, including bike safety, how to patch a flat, do your own simple tune up and when you really need to call the pros. Demonstrations will take place at the Learn and Grow Tent, at 10:00am, 11:30am & 1:00pm. Expert advice will be available all day!

THE KNIFE SHARPENER RETURNS!
Of course, bicycles aren’t the only thing featured at this week’s Glenwood Sunday Market. In addition to the usual fabulous array of farmers and vendors, back by popular demand is Knife Sharpening By Dave!
Dave sharpens anything from knives, bread knives (large scallop), meat cleavers, scissors (utility and sewing), pinking shears (zigzag or scallop) to lawn mower blades, pruning shears, and hedge loppers. Prices start at only $4.00! Dave takes orders on a first come first serve basis and his time fills up quickly. Safety Tip: To safely bring your items to the market, Dave recommends wrapping them in a terry cloth towel and transporting them in a cardboard box or sturdy bag.
