Over 400 residents voted this weekend at the Art Round Trip Festival to select the logo design that will adorn some of our new bike racks in high traffic areas. Four proposed designs were up for final consideration.
Rogers Park artist Robert Hansen’s depiction of the sun rising over Lake Michigan (right) garnered the most votes.
New bike racks were one of the projects approved by the voters in previous 49th Ward participatory budgeting elections and I arranged with the City to set aside a portion of the money allocated to include a distinct logo design for some of the racks in high traffic locations. The four finalists were among over 40 proposed bike rack designs submitted for consideration. All the artists were required to either live in Rogers Park or have a studio located within Rogers Park.
A committee of representatives of the Participatory Budgeting Leadership Committee and the Rogers Park Arts Alliance narrowed down the submissions to four finalists.
Below were the four options up for consideration and the votes they received:
Total Votes Cast: 446
Option C: 145 votes (32.5%)
Option A: 117 votes (26.2%)
Option D: 102 votes (22.9%)
Option B: 82 votes (18.4%)
If need be, the winning design will be modified slightly to ensure the functionality of the bike racks.
Congratulations to winning artist, Robert Hansen, and many thanks to the over 40 artists who submitted proposals to the competition. It’s a testament to the vibrancy of Rogers Park’s artistic community.
