And I’m getting so pumped about a Hawks victory that I’m putting my money where my mouth is.
I’ve made a wager with my friend, Mike Suarez, a city council member in Tampa. The bet is if the Hawks win Councilman Suarez will wear a Hawks jersey at his city council meeting and send me Cuban sandwiches, the official sandwich of the City of Tampa. He will also make a donation to Family Matters, which works with at risk families in the North of Howard community, offering programs ranging from tutoring and after-school activities for children and teens to broader initiatives such as fitness and health, postsecondary readiness, and environmental stewardship.
In the unlikely event Tampa wins, I’ve agreed to wear a Lightning jersey at a Chicago City Council meeting and send Councilman Suarez pizza from the 49th Ward’s very own Giordano’s Restaurant, located at 6836 N. Sheridan. I will also make a donation to one of Councilman Suarez’s favorite charities, Bay Area Legal Services, which offers free legal services to low income residents in the Tampa Bay area.
I can hardly wait to taste those Cuban sandwiches and secure that donation for the important work that Family Matters does.
I’m off to a good start. As you know the Hawks won Game 1 last night. The puck drops for game 2 this Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
