Please join Touhy Park Advisory Council President Tony Iniquez, the Participatory Budgeting Parks Committee and me as we cut the ribbon on the new Touhy Park Playground. The ribbon cutting will take place this Saturday, June 21st, 11:30 a.m., at Touhy Park, 7348 N. Paulina (just south of Jarvis).
The new playground at Touhy is one of the projects approved by the voters in my Participatory Budgeting process, where community residents vote on how to spend $1,000,000 of my discretionary annual capital improvement fund.
Approximately $450,000 dollars was invested in the new playground, of which $300,000 came from my discretionary fund and $150,000 from the Park District. The playground includes an improved pathway connection between the two play areas with picnic table seating; new bench; a seating wall; new drinking fountain; and landscape improvements including new trees and turf.
This new playground is a shining example of what we can accomplish when we work together. Mayor Emanuel, the Park District, the Touhy Park Advisory Council and ultimately the entire 49th Ward community, through my participatory budgeting process, worked hand in hand to make this new playground a reality.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
