Have you ever heard the old saying, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure”? We’re going to take that adage to a new level on the weekend of October 4th and 5th when the 49th Ward Green Corps, the City of Chicago Department of Environment and I sponsor a “TRASH TO TREASURE SWAP.”
The Swap will be held at 2017 W. Howard (site of the former Dearborn Wholesale Grocery). On Saturday, October 4th, from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m., drop off things you no longer want or need, but are still usable for others. Come back on Sunday, October 5th, to take home a “treasure” or two.
Those who drop off items on Saturday get a ticket to the “Preview Pick-Up” for first dibs on others’ unwanted stuff. The Preview Pick-Up will take place on Sunday, October 5th from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. After the Preview Pick-Up, the doors will open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., to anyone else who wishes to avail themselves of the remaining hidden treasures.
Be part of the solution and keep reusable resources in our community and out of landfills!
Below are some examples of items you might want to swap:
Kitchen utensils & pots & pans
Leftover Wrapping Paper
Baby strollers & furniture
DVD’s & CD’s
Divided plants-share hostas!
Canned goods &
Please do NOT bring clothing, shoes, computers or hazardous materials.
With many apartment leases up for renewal on October 1st, early October is one of the busiest moving days of the year in Rogers Park and Edgewater. This is an ideal time to unload yourself of items you no longer need and/or acquire that special something you’ve been looking for.
Start going through your attack or storage locker, and join us on October 4th and 5th!
