A Letter from Your Alderman:
The 49th Ward continues to be a model of how an economically, racially and culturally diverse community can re-develop, grow and flourish. I am proud of how we listen to one another and respect each other as we work together to bring about positive, thoughtful change to our community.
Together we have demonstrated that responsible development with strong community input can support exciting new businesses. We have succeeded in increasing home ownership opportunities and preserving the residential character of our neighborhood while still providing long-term affordable and senior housing, and respecting the retail needs of all incomes and ethnic communities.
Residents of the 49th Ward are diligent about reporting city service needs and that helps us stay on top of the neighborhood infrastructure needs. My staff fields over 500 calls and 200 emails each week from residents in need of city services, information or assistance.
We are a community that believes in working together for peace and justice, both locally and in the larger world. The work is not done, but together we have made great strides.
