Forums to Be Held on Dog Parks and Community Gardens
Dear Neighbor,
I am writing to invite you to two upcoming community meetings on dog parks and community gardens. These meetings are part of my Participatory Budgeting process, which I implemented this year to give community residents the power to determine how to spend my aldermanic "menu money" for capital improvements in the ward.
Sixty of your neighbors are currently serving as "community representatives," working to develop project proposals for spending that money. All 49th Ward residents age 16 and over will be invited to vote on the proposals in April. For more information about this process, click here.
The community representatives are hosting two meetings:
Dog Park Planning Meeting
Community representatives serving on the Participatory Budgeting Parks & Environment Committee invite you to a meeting to discuss plans and possible locations for an official dog park in the 49th Ward. The meeting will be held this Saturday, February 6th, 3:00 p.m., at The Glenwood, 6962 N. Glenwood Ave.
Staff from from the Chicago Park District will be present to discuss the procedures involved in creating a dog park. This is only an information and planning meeting for a project proposal, which will be subject to a community vote in April alongside many other spending proposals.
Community Garden Planning Meeting
The Participatory Budgeting Parks & Environment Committee also invites you to a meeting to discuss plans and possible locations for a community garden in the 49th Ward. The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 11th, 7:00 p.m. at the 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis).
Staff from the Chicago Park District will be present to discuss the requirements for a community garden, which include the formation of a community garden group that will use and maintain the garden. If you are interested in being part of such a garden group, and/or in discussing plans for a garden, please attend this meeting.
I hope to see you at one or both of these meetings. If you have any questions about these meetings or about the participatory budgeting process in general, please reply to this e-mail or call my 49th Ward Service Office at 773-338-5796.
Sincerely,
Joe Moore
