Help Our Haitian Neighbors

Posted: 1/15/2010

Dear Neighbor,

As I'm sure you know by now, the nation of Haiti has been devastated by a powerful earthquake.  Haiti does not have the building and safety codes and professional emergency response systems that we take for granted, and as a result, the situation in Haiti is desperate and getting worse by the hour.

The 49th Ward is home to one of the largest concentrations in the United States of people of Haitian descent.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims in Haiti and their family members here in the 49th Ward.

As President Obama said, "this is a time when we are reminded of the common humanity that we all share, and Americans have always responded to these situations with generosity of spirit."

Please give whatever you can to support the recovery efforts in Haiti.  Below are some local Haitian community organizations that are working hard to provide relief to their native land.  You may make a donation online with a credit card or send your donation to their office.

Haitian American Community Association, 1637 W. Morse, Chicago, IL 60626 (773-956-6949).  To donate, click here, or send your check made payable to the Haitian American Community Association, and indicate on the check that it is for "Haitian Relief."

Haitian Congress to Fortify Haiti, 1227 Dodge, Evanston, IL 60602, (847-475-5856).  To donate, click here, or send your check made payable to "Haitian Crisis Relief Fund."

Please give generously.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
