49th Ward CTA Stations to Get New Security Cameras

Posted: 9/10/2009

Dear Neighbor,

I am pleased to report that the CTA will install high-resolution digital security cameras and related equipment at its 49th Ward "L" stations by the end of next May.  The stations include the Howard, Jarvis, Morse, Loyola and Granville Red Line stations.

The stations will be among the first in the city to receive the new cameras.  CTA security cameras currently are posted in the 49th Ward only at the new Howard Red Line stop.  The new digital cameras will add to those that are already in place at Howard.

The new cameras will be able to display close-up details of people, including facial features and other fine details, and are funded from a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant.

It is hoped that those intending to commit a crime will think twice, knowing that their faces will be captured by the cameras.  This will make for a safer travel experience for all those who use the CTA.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
