Community Meeting on Chicago's 2016 Olympic Bid Proposal
Dear Neighbor,
As part of its pledge to hold community meetings in all 50 wards, the Chicago 2016 Committee will hold a public hearing in the 49th Ward on Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, 7:00 p.m. at the Rogers Park Library, 6907 N. Clark. 2016 Olympic Committee President, Lori Healey, will lead a presentation, and there will be time for questions and answers and comments from the community.
While I believe the 2016 Olympics could serve as a strong catalyst for jobs and economic development in Chicago, I share the concerns of many about the potential expenditure of scarce tax dollars in the event of cost overruns, and I would like to see more protections afforded to the taxpayers. As a result of concerns expressed by me and others, the Chicago City Council has asked the Chicago Civic Federation to conduct an independent analysis of the city's bid.
I urge you to attend the meeting to learn more about the 2016 Olympic proposal and express your views. If you are unable to attend this meeting, plenty of other hearings are being held throughout the city. For a complete schedule of 2016 Olympic hearings, CLICK HERE. Also, please feel free to share your views by replying to this e-mail or calling my office at 773-338-5796.
Sincerely,
Joe Moore
