It is time for another "Trash to Treasure" Swap
Dear Neighbor,
Have you ever heard the old saying, "One person's trash is another person's treasure"? We're going to again take that adage to a new level on the weekend of June 27 & 28 when my 49th Ward Green Corps, DevCorp North, and the Howard Street SSA sponsor another "Trash to Treasure Swap."
Please download a copy of the poster to share with your building residents, congregation, and co-workers. The pdf is provided below, or it may be downloaded from the Green Corps page of my website at www.ward49.com.
The Swap will be held at 1557 W. Howard (the former office of DevCorp North who are relocating to Morse Avenue). On Saturday, June 27, from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m., drop off things you no longer want or need, but are still usable for others. Come back on Sunday, June 28, to take home a "treasure" or two.
Those who drop off items on Saturday get a ticket to the "Preview Pick-Up" for first dibs on others' unwanted stuff. The Preview Pick-Up will take place on Sunday, June 28 from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. Certified school teachers are also welcome during this preview period to obtain classroom items. After the Preview Pick-Up, the doors will open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., to anyone else who wishes to avail themselves of the remaining hidden treasures.
I want to offer a very special thank you to Autumn Franger, a 49th Ward Green Corps volunteer who has organized these swaps and through her efforts has diverted semi-truckloads of usable goods from our landfills. Autumn truly embodies the 49th Ward Green Corps spirit, in which we believe that one person, with the support of other volunteers and with the resources of my 49th Ward Service Office behind her, can make a tremendous impact on greening our community. We thank DevCorp North and the Howard Street SSA for partnering with us this year.
