Pesticides, fertilizers, factory emissions, and so many other contaminants put our water and our lives at risk.  Mercury in our fish, pesticides on our grapes, chemicals on our lawns, pills flushed down our toilets . . . how do we get from here to a better tomorrow? 

Join us for the next WHY WATER MATTERS HERE workshop, "Please Don't Drink the Fertilizer: Water and Your Health," Monday, April 20th, 6:30 p.m., at the Loyola Park Fieldhouse, 1230 W. Greenleaf (at the Lake), 2nd Floor.  Learn what we must do to improve our water quality in our lakes and streams, and what you can do in your own home to protect your family through safer pest control methods and safer ways to care for your lawn and garden.

Jack Darin, Chapter Director of the Illinois Sierra Club, will be on hand to discuss the very real dangers that current levels of mercury in our water supply poses to wildlife and our own personal health.  Where does mercury come from, why do we need to get rid of it, and how do we go about doing so?  Jack, a leading environmental advocate, is one of the foremost experts on mercury.

We'll also be joined by Steve Pincuspy, Senior Program Associate with the Safer Pest Control Project, who will discuss safe, effective and pesticide-free methods for ridding pests from your single family home or apartment.  He'll also talk about natural methods for caring for your lawn and garden that don't require the use of commercial fertilizers or pesticides.  The Safer Pest Control Project is a nationally-recognized organization that aims to reduce the impact of pesticides on human health and the environment.
