Green Corps "Swap" (Free Yard Sale) Coming Soon!

Posted: 9/25/2008

Dear Friend,

You may recall a few weeks ago, I sent you an e-mail about our "TRASH TO TREASURE SWAP" sponsored by my office, the 49th Ward Green Corps and the City of Chicago Department of Environment.  It takes place the weekend of October 4th and 5th at 2017 W. Howard (site of the former Dearborn Wholesale Grocery and Hi Neighbor Grocery).

What is the "Trash to Treasure Swap?  It's like a big yard sale--only everything is free!  You drop off things you no longer want or need on one day and come back the next day to take home a "treasure" that someone else doesn't want, but might prove useful to you.  Make sure you bring your own bag.

In the process, we'll extend the useful life of a lot of "stuff" and keep it out of the landfills.

Here's how it works:

On Saturday, October 4th, from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m., drop off your old "trash"--things that are still usable for others but no longer have a place in your home.   Come back on Sunday, October 5th, to take home a "treasure" or two.

Those who drop off items on Saturday get a ticket to the "Preview Pick-Up" for first dibs on others' unwanted stuff.  The Preview Pick-Up will take place on Sunday, October 5th from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m.  After the Preview Pick-Up, the doors will open from 2:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m., and everyone is welcome to TAKE IT ALL AWAY!

Be part of the solution and keep reusable resources in our community and out of landfills!

Below are some examples of items you might want to swap:

Household Goods
Toys
Art
Furniture
Craft Materials
Hardware
Jewelry
Kitchen utensils & pots & pans
Appliances
Lamps
Knick Knacks
Leftover Wrapping Paper
Baby strollers & furniture
Bed frames
Books
DVD's & CD's
Building Supplies
Bicycles
Bookshelves
Packing materials
Electronics
Holiday Decorations
Garden Supplies
Divided plants-share hostas!
Plastic bins
Lawn Chairs
Exercise equipment
Sporting Goods
Canned goods &
non-perishable food
Office supplies

Please DO NOT bring clothing, shoes, computers or hazardous materials.

With many apartment leases up for renewal on October 1st, early October is one of the busiest moving days of the year in Rogers Park and Edgewater. This is an ideal time to unload yourself of items you no longer need and/or acquire that special something you've been looking for.

Start going through your attic or storage locker, and join us on October 4th and 5th!

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
