Jarvis El Station to Receive Upgrade
Dear Neighbor,
CTA riders in the Jarvis Square area will soon enjoy some upgrades to the Jarvis El Station.
The el platform will receive a new canopy and lighting, and the canopy supports will be repainted. In addition, the stationhouse will receive a new ceiling and new station doors, and the station entrance will be entirely repainted.
The funding for this project came from cost savings on the Green Line reconstruction project. The CTA tells me work will be completed by the end of June.
I secured funding for similar work on the Morse Avenue El Station several years ago.
In the meantime, work continues on the brand new Howard El Station, located next to the CTA parking garage at Gateway Center. The station is scheduled to be open by next year, and a complete renovation of the existing Howard Street entrance and extensive repairs to the Howard Street viaducts should be completed by 2010.
I will continue to keep you updated on the status of these projects.
Sincerely,
Joe Moore
