Do You Have A Water Meter in Your Building? READ THIS!

Posted: 3/14/2008

Dear Neighbor,

If you own property that has a City of Chicago water meter, you need to know this important information.  If your property does not contain a city water meter, please disregard this message.

Last fall, the City of Chicago Department of Water Management began installing new Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) devices on existing water meters in the 49th Ward.  The new AMR devices will enable the Water Department to read the meters from remote locations, which means that city Water Department employees will no longer require access to your home or property to read your water meter.

Installation of the AMR devices on existing water meters is MANDATORY and is done at NO COST to the property owner.  If the installers are unable to gain access to your property, the Department of Water will terminate water service to your building.

Approximately 2,000 properties in the 49th Ward contain water meters.  Of those properties, 400 property owners have failed to respond to several notices requesting access to install the meters.  If you have not received the notices or you overlooked them, please call the AMR installers, Professional Meters, Inc., at 1-888-517-8883, Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to schedule an installation.

The installation process typically takes less than 30 minutes and is scheduled at your convenience.  You must provide access to your property, but need not be present during the installation.

I don't want water service shut off to anyone in our ward, so please call to make an appointment as soon as possible!

If you have any questions or concerns, call the Department of Water Management at 312-747-7530, Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4pm, or CLICK HERE to visit the department's website.

Again, the phone number for the AMR installation is 1-888-517-8883.  If you haven't already, I strongly urge you to call today!

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
