The Common Cup's Official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting

Posted: 6/5/2007

Dear Neighbor,

Pleased join me for the official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Common Cup, Rogers Park's newest coffee house, located at 1501 W. Morse (southwest corner of Morse and Greenview). The event will take place on Wednesday, June 13th, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., and will be held in conjunction with Rogers Park BizArt's monthly networking breakfast. I will also bring my 49th Ward "Satellite Service Office" to the event, where my staff will be available to take city service requests.

Owners Ruth and John Hoekwater opened unofficially three weeks ago and report business is already brisk. According to the News Star, the Hoekwaters plan to make the Common Cup a community gathering spot that will feature local art work, singers and songwriters. An adjoining community room will host knitting circles, book clubs, drum circles and support groups.

The Common Cup will carry products purchased from local vendors who practice social responsibility, such as Red Hen Baked Bread and Intelligentsia Coffee, which purchases coffee beans directly from growers. The coffee house will also serve cold drinks in biodegradable plastic cups made from corn starch. The Hoekwaters plan to hire local residents as staff, and especially hope to train young people.

The Hoekwaters are great people and the Common Cup is a great business. Please give them your support and join me for the official Grand Opening next week!

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
