  • Drastic CTA Service Cuts and Fare Increases--Help Save the CTA!
    Posted: 10/30/2007
    Dear Neighbor,

I'm afraid they're at it again. A crisis is looming, the CTA is about to impose draconian service cuts and fare increases, and the Governor and state legislative leaders are doing nothing.

You might recall I sent you an e-mail last September asking you to contact our governor and state legislators demanding that they enact a permanent solution to the CTA funding crisis. The Governor responded with a short-term fix that borrowed money from next year's fund to pay for this year's shortfall. He promised to devise a more permanent solution before that money ran out.

  • Help Make the 49th Ward a Greener Community
    Posted: 10/29/2007
    Dear Neighbor,

Now is your chance to put the phrase "Think globally, act locally" to work here in Rogers Park and Edgewater, and help make the 49th Ward a true environmentally sustainable community.

This Saturday, November 3rd, I will host an all-day Chicago Conservation Corps In-Service Training for the 49th Ward Green Corps, a group of Rogers Park and Edgewater residents committed to building a more sustainable community. A few openings remain for this first-of-its-kind class, sponsored by the City of Chicago Department of Environment.

  • Alderman Moore Speaks Out on Mayor's Budget and Tax Proposals
    Posted: 10/26/2007
    Dear Neighbor,

The Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune reported yesterday that Mayor Daley may consider lowering his proposed property tax increase and instead increase other taxes and fees. I remain very skeptical of any proposed increase in taxes and fees without a greater commitment on the part of the Mayor to root out corruption, waste and inefficiency in City government.

I recently appeared on WTTW's Chicago Tonight show to discuss the proposed budget and revenue increases. With me on the show were the Mayor's budget director, Bennett Johnston, and my City Council colleague, 22nd Ward Alderman Ricardo Munoz.

  • Alderman Moore's Decision on 7-11's Request to Lift Moratorium
    Posted: 10/24/2007
    Dear Neighbor,

As you may know, I was asked by Mr. Hashim Sayed and the 7-Eleven corporation to lift the 49th Ward's moratorium on new packaged liquor licenses for their store at 1414 W. Pratt (at Glenwood). Lifting the moratorium would have enabled 7-Eleven to apply for a liquor license.

I hosted a community meeting on Tuesday, October 24th, to give Mr. Sayed and 7-Eleven an opportunity to present their proposal and solicit the opinions of community residents.

The 49th Ward became a little more green and the utility bills of some 49th Ward seniors became a little more manageable when the 49th Ward Green Corps Action Team on Saturday distributed and installed free energy-efficient light bulbs to the residents of the Gateway Senior Citizen Building, 7450 N. Rogers.

  • Alderman Moore on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" this Evening
    Posted: 10/16/2007
    Dear Neighbor,

Tune in this evening (Tuesday) to WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" program (Channel 11) to hear my views on the Mayor's proposed tax and fee increases. Some of my City Council colleagues and I will be participating in a panel discussion beginning shortly after 7:00 p.m.

I am very concerned that the proposed taxes place a disproportionate burden on average Chicagoans. While we all want to avoid cuts in needed services, I share the views of many that the City must take a harder line against waste, fraud and corruption.

Obtaining a packaged liquor license is part of an over-all plan to remodel and upgrade the store. Mr. Sayed will be joined by representatives of the 7-Eleven Corporation, who will outline plans for the store improvements.

  • Loyola Park Foot Path to Undergo Major Repairs
    Posted: 10/5/2007
    Dear Neighbor,

I'm sure you will agree that the foot path that winds its way through Loyola Park along Lake Michigan provides one of the most picturesque and peaceful walks anywhere in Chicago. I'm sure you will also agree that the path itself needs a major overhaul. Cracks, potholes and muddy ruts abound and mar an otherwise gorgeous view.

I'm pleased to report that will soon change. The Chicago Park District has embarked on a project to completely repair and resurface the foot path in the park. If you've visited Loyola Park recently, you may have noticed that work already has begun on the most run-down portion of the path, near Pratt Avenue.
