    Update on First Commercial Bank Robbery

    Dear Neighbor,

    I am writing to update you on an attempted bank robbery that occurred in our neighborhood today. At approximately 9:45 a.m. today (Thursday), a gunman entered through the back door of First Commercial Bank, located at 6945 N. Clark (northeast corner of Clark and Morse), and announced a robbery. Bank customers and a number of bank employees fled the building. Other employees hid in different rooms in the building.

    Contrary to early news media reports, the gunman did not take hostages, and it now appears he fled the building shortly after he announced the robbery. It is not yet known whether he took any money, nor is it known if he had any accomplices. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

    Dear Neighbors,

    Please join Committeeman David Fagus and me for a fun-filled day at Loyola Park (Farwell Avenue at the Lake) this Sunday, August 26. Festivities will run from noon until 4:00 PM.

    Free food and soft drinks will be provided to all who attend.

    Activities include a Firetruck, Games and Prizes, Jumping Jack, Bingo, Dance Contest, Kid ID Program, Face Painting and more surprises!

  • We Want Your Input Tomorrow Night

    Dear Neighbor,

    As you know, the Gale Park Community Center at Howard Street and Marshfield Avenue is nearing completion. I am told by the contractor and the Public Building Commission that the building should be ready for its Grand Opening early next year!

    The Gale Park Community Center will be a Chicago Park District facility, and the North of Howard Parks Advisory Council is currently working with the Park District to decide what programs will be offered at the center.

  • Public Health Notice

    Dear Neighbor,

    Animal Care and Control notified me today of an incident that occurred in our community.

    On Monday, August 13 a bat was found in a third floor apartment on the 7400 block of N. Hoyne. The resident called 311 and Animal Care and Control was dispatched to remove the bat.

    The bat was dead upon arrival at Animal Care & Control headquarters and according to standard procedures was sent to a laboratory to be tested for rabies. Late yesterday they received the results. The test came back positive for rabies.

    I would like to congratulate the 24th District Police Department, and all the community residents who participate in CAPS, for their continued good work As reported in this week's News Star, the 24th Police District, which includes the 49th Ward, continues to experience a sharp decrease in serious crime.

    I would like to advise you of an upcoming informational meeting sponsored by the 49th Ward Zoning and Land Use Committee and my office regarding a new condominium development at 1352 W. Touhy. No zoning relief is requested or needed from the City. The Committee and I are hosting this meeting simply to inform you of the new development, and to give you an opportunity to provide comments or suggestions to the developer.
