    Our 24th District Police Commander, Steven Caluris, has been in his new job for over a month. He's been meeting with groups and individuals throughout the district. If you haven't had an opportunity to meet him, now's your chance.

  • Calling All Artists: CTA to Select Artwork for Howard El Station

    Dear Neighbor,

    Like all new transit stations, the new Howard CTA El Station will feature a permanent work of original art. The CTA will soon begin the process for selecting the artist and the artwork. The 49th Ward is home to scores of artists, and I think it would be wonderful if a local artist's work could be featured.

  • Jarvis Square Parking and Traffic Issues: An Update

    Dear Neighbor,

    As you may recall, I hosted a discussion last week about parking and traffic issues in the Jarvis Square business district. I am writing to report on the outcome of that discussion.

    Over fifty neighborhood residents and business owners attended the meeting. The discussion centered on three topics: 1) a proposal from businessman Tony Barbanente to install diagonal parking on the north side of Jarvis between the Jarvis El Station and Ashland, 2) the possibility of installing parking meters in front of the businesses in Jarvis Square, and 3) the possibility of making Jarvis a two-way street from either Clark to Sheridan or Ashland to Sheridan.

  • Jarvis El Station to Receive Upgrade

    Dear Neighbor,

    CTA riders in the Jarvis Square area will soon enjoy some upgrades to the Jarvis El Station.

    The el platform will receive a new canopy and lighting, and the canopy supports will be repainted. In addition, the stationhouse will receive a new ceiling and new station doors, and the station entrance will be entirely repainted.

  • Celebrate Earth Day 2008 at Loyola!

    The north side communities of Rogers Park, Edgewater, West Ridge and Uptown have joined forces with Loyola University to host the first annual North Lake Shore Earth Day Conference and Celebration. This free event will be held Saturday, April 12th, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Loyola University's new Life Sciences Building (located on the north side of Sheridan Road, just east of the parking garage).
