  • URGENT! Help Save Sponsor of Chicago's Foie Gras Ban

    Dear Friends,

    Joe Moore, the Alderman (City Council member) of Chicago's 49th Ward, put his political life on the line to protect the animals we love. As a result of his bravery, the City of Chicago has enacted a ban on the sale of foie gras and is beginning to enforce that ordinance.

    Joe Moore is under attack. His political career is in jeopardy and so is the ban. In the recent Chicago City Council elections, Joe faced three opponents and fell just 51 votes shy of avoiding a run-off election.

  • Leone Park Lifeguard Applications Now Being Accepted

    Dear Neighbors,

    The Chicago Park District is now accepting Lifeguard Applications for the Leone Park lifeguard program and other lifeguard opportunities citywide. Application deadlines are March 30, April 20 and May 4. Swim tests are required as part of the application process.

    The Chicago Park District assured me today that if you or your child participated in the program last year, you will receive an application in the mail, despite a published earlier application deadline. If you do not receive it, please call the Park District's Beaches and Pools Unit at 312-742-5121. New applicants may also call this number for more information.

    Mike Erickson, the 49th Ward Streets and Sanitation Superintendent has just released the 2007 Street Sweeping schedule. The official schedule begins April 1st, but as weather permits we will be cleaning some streets earlier, so please watch for the orange signs.
