Police and Community Partner With Sullivan High School

In a partnership with Sullivan High School to address the increased incidence of violence especially at dismissal time, 24th District Police Commander David Sobczyk and I met recently with Sullivan High School Principal Joseph Atria and the Sullivan High School Local School Council to discuss several proposed safety measures.

Decision on Chicago Math and Science Academy Relocation

Dear Neighbor,
I sponsored a community meeting last November on a proposal for a zoning change to allow the Chicago Math and Science Academy (CMSA) to move into the old Clark Mall site at 7212 N. Clark (across from Touhy Park).
The proposal was met with overwhelming support at the community meeting, which over 100 community residents attended, and my Zoning and Land Use Advisory Committee recommended I support the proposal, as well. Accordingly, I have decided to support the zoning change.

Statistics Reveal Mixed Results on Crime

Dear Neighbor,
The Chicago Police Department released its 2008 crime statistics, and it's a mixed bag for our neighborhood.
The good news is that total index crime in the 24th Police District fell 1.3% in 2008 as compared to 2007. The 24th District was one of only four police districts in the city that experienced an overall reduction in index crime. Citywide, index crime was up 2.5%.
