Street Sweeping Postponed to Address Storm Damage
Dear Neighbor,
The City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation has ordered a two-day halt to residential street sweeping citywide so that street sweeper drivers can be redeployed to areas of the city hit hard by last weekend's storm. The sweeper drivers will assist sanitation crews in collecting bulk material discarded by homeowners whose basements flooded during the storm, which produced near-record rainfall amounts in the south and west sides of the city.
As a result, the streets in the area bounded by Touhy on the north, Pratt on the south, Clark on the west, and Greenview on the east will not get swept today (Wednesday) and tomorrow, as was scheduled. I will work with my Ward Superintendent, Greg Wagner, to ensure the area gets swept gradually over the next week.
For the purpose of street sweeping, the 49th Ward is divided into eleven separate sections. Each section is swept at least once a month from April through the middle of November. For the street sweeping schedule and a map that delineates the sections, CLICK HERE.
I am hopeful we will return to the regular street sweeping schedule on Friday. I will inform you via e-mail if that turns out not to be the case.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Joe Moore
