Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. This neighborhood is vibrant, diverse and exciting thanks to the many volunteers who enrich our community life. The 49th Ward offers many opportunities for community involvement. 

Rogers Park and Edgewater are two of the most activist communities anywhere. We encourage you to put your skills, passions and interests to work. Whether you are new to the neighborhood or have lived here all your life and suddenly find yourself with a few free hours to give, we are certain that by getting involved you will make a world of difference and will find yourself an integral part of your neighborhhood.

  

New Volunteer Opportunity: openhouseChicago!

 

Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society is the lead agency on Chicago's northside for openhouseChicago--a new, city-wide cultural event that opens the door to visitors for 140 of Chicago's cultural, historical and environmental treasures that are not normally accessible to the public. 

RP/WRHS is recruiting volunteers to staff 22 locations in Rogers Park and West Ridge for the event happening the weekend of October 15th and 16th. The volunteers will play host to the visitors of our neighborhood's cultural and historical treasures. The organizers are expecting thousands of visitors from Chicago and beyond. 

Volunteers will help manage crowds and provide tour information during 4-hour shifts from 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm.  The 22 locations in Rogers Park and West Ridge range from historic residences, such as the Emil Bach House on Sheridan Road, to culturally important businesses, such as the Mayne Stage on Morse and the Lifeline Theater on Glenwood. Internships and Volunteer Opportunities
in the 49th Ward Service Office

 
There is no better way to understand local government than to spend time volunteering in a ward service office.  Alderman Joe Moore's 49th Ward Service Office welcomes students seeking practical experience in Political Science, Social/Human Services, Urban Planning, Zoning and Land Use, Government and numerous other disciplines.
 
We also welcome the help of our neighbors wishing to serve the community.  The Ward Service Office handles hundreds of calls, emails and letters each day from constituents in need of city and social services.  Our volunteers help us do that job better.  We rely on volunteers to help answer phones, distribute notices of community meetings and events, and so much more!
